Two Steps Behind

Kashmir 2004. Three innocent civilians, an Englishman, an American and an Indian, taken hostage by Islamic militants are imprisoned in a windowless cell. This play delves into the human side of the hostage issue – what a man, who has been unjustly kidnapped and thrown into a cell, experiences. The fear, the hopelessness and the helplessness in the face of an unseen enemy lurking outside…And yet he finds ways to live with humour, tenderness and fantasy. The play premiered in 2004 and was staged at both the Prithvi festival in Bombay and the first ever Ranga Shankara festival in Bangalore.
